Bump or hump
A speed bump is short and sharp, for parking lots and private lanes where cars should crawl. A speed hump is longer and gentler, for roads where traffic should slow but keep moving; it’s what cities install. The City of Edmonton, which installs humps and tables at more than 20 sites a year, cites the Canadian Guide to Traffic Calming for speed reductions of 6 to 13 km/h.
What’s sold
- Barco Products Canada lists standard speed hump kits (SB-15) from $549, before its posted 25% surcharge.
- Sure Guard sells speed bumps and humps alongside its parking curbs.
- Bollard Canada sells a 6 ft rubber speed bump.
How many sections
Divide the lane width by the section length and round up. A 7.3 m two-lane drive aisle with 6 ft (1.83 m) sections takes 4 sections, plus end caps if the kit uses them. Leave a gap at a drain line so water isn’t trapped.
On a public road, speed humps are the municipality’s call. Our quotes are for private property: lots, lanes, campuses and private roads.
