Crash-rated bollards

A crash-rated bollard has been hit by a test vehicle at a set speed and the distance the vehicle got past it measured. Here are the ratings manufacturers publish, and the foundations those ratings depend on.

By the Safety Bollards team · Updated 2026-10-26 · Every spec below links to the manufacturer’s own page.

A rating belongs to the tested product on its tested foundation. The same bollard in a shallower footing, at a wider spacing or in different soil is not rated. ASTM itself says site soils, terrain and climate can degrade performance.

Low-speed impact ratings (ASTM F3016)

F3016 tests with a 5,000 lb surrogate vehicle at 10, 20 or 30 mph. It’s the rating for storefronts, patios and parking-lot edges, where the risk is a driver hitting the wrong pedal, not a deliberate attack.

Portable and temporary

  • ättaGard (ännt): 273 mm steel with concrete infill, about 350 kg, on an 800 × 924 mm base plate with no excavation. Rated ASTM PU30, PU40 and PU50.
  • TB100 (Delta Scientific): cable-linked units, five spanning 20 ft, surface-placed. Rated ASTM M30/P3 as an array of five.

Ask for this in every quote

  • The test report, not just the rating: the standard and its year (F2656-07, -15 and -20 differ), the vehicle, speed and penetration.
  • Whether the rating is certified or engineer-rated. Gibraltar marks some models as engineer-rated or extrapolated; they weren’t crashed in that configuration.
  • The foundation drawing the rating depends on, and the spacing used in the test.

What the letters and numbers mean: crash ratings explained. Which standard to ask for: ASTM F2656 vs F3016.
