# Surface-mount vs embedded bollards

> Bolt-down bollards are fast and need no digging; core-drilled and embedded bollards hold far more. When each is right, with published base plates, footings and embed depths.

How a bollard is fixed matters as much as the bollard. A base plate on four anchors is quick; a post set in a footing is what actually stops a car.

## Pick surface-mount if

- You can’t dig or core.
- The job is guiding traffic or marking an edge.
- You need it done in a day.

## Pick embedded if

- People, glass, gas meters or racking are behind the bollards.
- Vehicles are heavier or faster than a car parking.
- You want it to last decades without re-anchoring.
