A surface-mount bollard bolts to the slab through a base plate. It’s quick, needs no digging and suits parkade decks and finished floors, but it holds far less than a post set in a footing.

## What’s published

| Product | Base | Anchors |
| --- | --- | --- |

## When it’s enough

- Marking a walkway or a parking edge, guiding traffic, light knocks.
- Slabs you can’t core: parkade decks, slabs with in-floor heat or post-tension cables, tenant spaces where the landlord won’t allow it.
- A shallow-mount crash-rated system, where the maker has tested exactly that mounting.

## When it isn’t

A plain base plate on four anchors can shear off under a car that a cored or embedded post would stop. In front of glass, people or gas meters, use a [core-drilled](https://safetybollards.ca/installation/core-drilled-bollards) or [embedded](https://safetybollards.ca/installation/embedded-bollards) bollard, or a rated shallow system.
